Breast Lift

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that raises and reshapes sagging breasts to restore a more youthful, firm, and elevated appearance. Over time, factors such as aging, gravity, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and weight fluctuations can cause breasts to lose shape and firmness. A breast lift addresses these concerns by removing excess skin, tightening surrounding tissue, and repositioning the nipple for a naturally lifted look. This procedure can be performed alone or in combination with breast augmentation for enhanced volume and projection.

How is a Breast Lift performed?

Breast lift surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia and takes about 2 to 3 hours. The specific technique and incision pattern depend on the degree of sagging and your unique anatomy. Common incision types include:

  • Peri-areolar (around the nipple)

  • Lollipop (around the nipple and vertically down to the breast crease)

  • Anchor (around the nipple, vertically down, and along the breast crease)

Once the incisions are made, the surgeon removes excess skin, lifts and reshapes the breast tissue, and repositions the nipple and areola higher on the breast. If desired, the size of the areola can also be reduced. The incisions are then closed with fine sutures, and a supportive surgical bra is placed to aid healing.

Post Breast Lift Care

Recovery after a breast lift is usually straightforward, with most patients returning to light activities within a week. Swelling, bruising, and soreness are normal and gradually subside over several weeks.

Wear your surgical bra or compression garment as instructed – This supports healing and helps maintain the new shape.

Sleep on your back with your upper body slightly elevated – This reduces swelling and avoids pressure on the chest.

Avoid heavy lifting, pushing, or upper-body workouts for 4–6 weeks – Let your body heal without strain.

Frequently Asked Questions

No, a breast lift repositions and reshapes the breasts but does not significantly change their size. If you desire more volume, a breast augmentation can be combined with your lift.
