Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia surgery, also known as male breast reduction, is a procedure that reduces excess breast tissue in men. Gynecomastia (enlargement of male breast tissue) can be caused by hormonal changes, genetics, weight fluctuations, or certain medications. This condition often creates physical discomfort and self-consciousness. The surgery restores a flatter, firmer, and more masculine chest contour.

How is Gynecomastia performed?

The approach depends on the severity of the condition:

  • Liposuction – For cases caused mainly by excess fat, small incisions are made, and a cannula is used to remove fat deposits.

  • Excision – For cases involving dense glandular tissue or excess skin, surgical excision is performed through incisions around the areola or chest crease.

  • Combination Technique – Many patients require both liposuction and excision to achieve the best result.

The procedure is typically done under general anesthesia or sedation and takes 1–2 hours.

Post gynecomastia Care

Compression Garment – Wear as directed to minimize swelling and help the chest conform to its new shape.

Activity Restrictions – Avoid heavy lifting, chest workouts, and strenuous activity for at least 4–6 weeks. Light walking is encouraged to promote circulation.

Incision Care – Keep incisions clean and dry, follow your surgeon’s wound care instructions, and attend all follow-up visits for monitoring.
